THE HAMPTONS

During the first week Fiona and I went to the Hamptons for a night. They have a holiday house there at Shelter Island and another little cottage at Wainscot. They had both been rented out so we went down there to check them out and tidy things up a bit so they can be closed up for the winter.
The Hamptons remind me a lot of Cape Cod. Lots of lovely old grey shingled houses on the beach. Like Vermont it is rare to see a house made out of brick there.
We caught the bus to South Hampton and then picked up the car and drove to the Shelter Island house first (which included a ferry ride). This was Fiona's family holiday home when she was growing up and it has a fantastic view of the water - you can actually see Connecticut past the Long Island Sound. It's an amazing view.
So we tidied up, washed sheets and towels, cleaned out the fridge etc. as well as going for a walk, relaxing, talking.
That kind of stuff.
We stayed the night there and then left around midday to go to the cottage in Wainscot where we packed up the outdoor furniture and defrosted the fridge.
With the hairdryer.
These photos are from Shelter Island.
