Our second day in New York we decided to see if we could get half price tickets for another show. So we caught the subway back to Times Square to see what was on offer.
I have to say that I kind of get the subway now. Whenever I went on it with Fiona (which was very rare actually) I just followed her blindly. But now I had to actually know what I was doing and between Nic and I we worked it out. Almost made me feel like a local.
Kind of.
Anyway being a Thursday the only show they had at the cheap ticket place was Hamlet at 30% off. Neither of us is really into Shakespeare that much but Jude Law was playing Hamlet so we thought that it was worth a look.
We felt very cultured going to see Shakespeare.
The show didn’t start until 2pm so we walked up to Central Park, hired bikes and rode around the park for about an hour which was great fun. The chain came off Nic’s bike (which she fixed) but apart from that it was a blast.
So……..Hamlet……considering we aren’t Shakespeare fans we really enjoyed it.
Being about 12 rows away from Jude Law could possibly have had something to do with it.
I mean we did struggle to stay awake in some parts (in our defense we were both somewhat sleep deprived) but overall we really enjoyed it. The way it had been directed was really interesting, not to mention funny (comedy not being the first thought that comes to mind when I think of Shakespeare) and Jude did a fantastic job. Unfortunately someone forgot to turn their mobile off after interval and it rang in the second act. I was waiting for someone on stage to say something (like Hugh Jackman did recently and I don’t blame him). I realize it may have been an honest mistake but really! Not only do they tell you at the start of the performance to turn your phone off, they also remind you at interval.
It’s not that hard.
