Before I get back to my story on getting here I want to introduce you to one of the babies. This is Nadia - she has a heart problem but without trying to sound cliched (not sure if i spelt that correctly) she has definitely stolen my heart. I was thinking about trying to hide her in my suitcase but as I want to bring Libby & Julia home too I think someone would notice. She is so beautiful with such a lovely nature & boy does she love smiling!
So anyway. Back to me. After breakfast Amanda had a meeting with the Red Cross so the taxi driver took me the rest of the way. I had no idea how to get into the building but eventually Gigi another volunteer came out to meet me. You would think walking into a room with about 18 babies would be deafening but it's not too bad (although I have since discovered what it is like when they are all crying). I then met the other volunteers - Elise from Holland & Lila from the U.S. - & it was pretty much straight into it. Feed, clothe, change, cuddle, play - whatever you felt like doing with them. Trying to remember who is who was a bit tricky but I think I have it now.
The problem now was to try & get my luggage & after lots of discussion we organised a taxi driver who they use regularly to take me there the next day. So Lila lent me some pj's & deodorant & I washed the clothes I had on. I was desperate for my suitcase. I wanted clean clothes, my contacts, my toilet bag etc. etc. But I would have to wait another day.
Note to self : Patience is a virtue blah blah blah.
