We left Crestview early in the morning for a 4 hour drive to New Orleans. We had been advised to stay in the French Quarter and make sure we paid for valet parking to make sure our stuff in the car is okay.
We got there pretty easily and drove around in circles (well squares really as it’s all laid out on a grid - with lots of one way streets) for a few minutes until we found some parking that appeared non dodgy.
We were starving so food was on the top of our list and we found somewhere straight away. Not too hard to do as there are heaps of places to eat at. We wanted to have some traditional Creole or Cajun food so I had a fried shrimp po-boy which is basically fried shrimp in a roll. Rob had alligator in his which I tried. It tasted like a mild kind of beef.
We then wandered around the streets for a few minutes before deciding on taking a buggy ride around, which works out heaps better as you get to see more and have someone to tell you what everything is. Our guide Bob was born and raised in New Orleans.
After that we wandered over to the old Mississippi River to have a look at the steamboat and then walked around looking at the shops. The two days before were the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras which is a big event there and it seemed that there were a lot of people still out drinking from the night before.
It was really hot so our last stop was a café to get a drink and try some French donuts.
Which were incredibly good.
So obviously, incredibly bad for me.
We then had a six hour drive to Memphis and got to the Graceland RV and campground about 10pm. We had a little log cabin and actually had to use our sleeping bags for the first time.
It was almost like being back at camp.
