We started out the day by going to the Washington Monument (5th photo), followed by the WW2 Memorial, Lincoln Memorial (4th photo), WW1 Memorial, Korean Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial (3rd photo).
If you want to see a memorial to something, then Washington is the place to be.
After that we went to the Holocaust Museum which, like others I have seen, was extremely moving. Even though we grow up knowing about it, each time I see a museum like this it shocks me all over again that one person could cause so much horror. It is unthinkable and unimaginable even though it is right there in front of you.
We finished our day with a visit to the White House.
Well actually we stood behind a barricade a fair way away from it and asked a passerby to take our photo (the first shot).
I'm sure the President would have come out to say hello but he was vacationing (how very American of me) at Martha's Vineyard.
We drove to a place called Durham to stay the night in a kind of dodgy hotel.
Well the hotel wasn't too bad but there were some dodgy people around.
