NEW YORK

Nicola got to New York on Tuesday and we met up the next morning. The apartment she was staying was only about 6 blocks from where I am in Greenwich Village so she walked to me, met Fiona and we played with the kitten and looked up accommodation for the first part of our road trip after we leave New York.
We then decided to make our first day together in NY kind of casual. So we caught the subway to Battery Park where we could see the Statue of Liberty.
Well it was kind of far away but we could still see it. It was sooooo windy down there so the idea of catching the ferry over to look closer was not that exciting as Nic really didn’t want to see her breakfast again. We also walked to Ground Zero, stumbled across the Irish Potato Famine Memorial (we weren’t sure what it was and when we asked a lady where we were her response was “New York City” - Americans, you gotta love them) and then walked along the Hudson River, grabbed a Starbucks and walked to Bob’s office to meet Fiona.
Once we got back home we had a shower and then grabbed a quick dinner before jumping back on the subway to get to Broadway to see Jersey Boys (my going away present from work was a voucher to see a Broadway show - v nice!). It was a great show but I seem to end up sitting near someone strange - or at the very least, memorable. Next to Nic were a mother and daughter who talked a lot throughout the show. And they weren’t whispering. Normally neither of us would say anything but it was so bad that Nic shushed them. They just looked at her and then laughed!!!!!!
The other really odd people were in front of us - they were directly in front of Nic so she had a harder time not being distracted by them. There was a man and a woman, he was African American and she wasn’t - maybe not relevant but I’m trying to build a picture for you - and she looked about 20 years older than him. But maybe it was just the lighting.
For a lot of the show he was holding one of her hands (the one on the far side which made the whole thing look a lot more awkward) up to his mouth. Now I can’t be sure but Nic insisted that he was sucking her fingers!!!! It was hilarious and disgusting at the same time.
When he wasn’t doing that he was so excited about the music that he was in tears.
I guess he really loves Frankie Valli.
Next to the lady was her daughter who appeared kind of embarrassed by the whole ordeal.
I don’t blame her. I was embarrassed for them too.
After the show we walked to Times Square and went to M & M world. It’s amazing how much stuff they sell.
Nice to see M & M’s en mass though.
Yum!
