GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS - CADES COVE

After the JD distillery we drove to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and went into Cades Cove. We got there kind of late but there were still a lot of people around. There is a scenic drive that you go along (if we got there earlier we could have walked it or hired a bike) and even in the car it took us about and hour and a half. We saw deer, squirrels, a coyote and most exciting of all.................bears. The second photo is of one of the bears up a tree - it's hard to tell because it was getting dark and the closer you zoom in the fuzzier it gets. The first group of bears was a mother and four cubs. A lot of cars had stopped on the side of the road and when we asked why they told us about the bears. We had to walk into the trees a little way before we saw them and they were up a tree. When they started to climb down I got slightly nervous (visions of being chased and mauled by bears and all that) and when we saw the one in the photo it was up a tree just at the edge of the road.

It was amazing to see!
